COMPETITIONS AT ROTH ARCHITECTURE

Title:

Learning by Doing: Experiences from International Competitions

Project Overview:

At Roth Architecture, I’ve had the chance to participate in several international design competitions. Each one has been an intense learning process, where ideas are tested quickly and the line between concept and feasibility is constantly challenged. These projects pushed us to design fast, think clearly, and build solid strategies under real constraints.

What I Did:

My role involved much more than parametric design. I took part in structural calculations, constructive detailing, and the technical preparation of the models for fabrication. The designs I contributed were developed by me in close collaboration with the architectural team. Every step was shared and discussed—refining ideas collectively to make sure the project could work both conceptually and technically.

Tools & Methods:

We used tools like Rhino, Grasshopper, and structural analysis plugins. The workflow was highly iterative: sketch, test, validate, adjust—until we found a solution that made sense architecturally and could realistically be built. We aimed for clarity, efficiency, and expression through material logic.

Final Thoughts:

These competitions have been some of the most valuable professional experiences I’ve had. More than just a chance to propose ideas, they were moments to work side by side with talented people, take responsibility for the design decisions, and stay grounded in the real constraints of construction. That balance—between imagination and making—has stayed with me ever since.
