HELSINKI MUSEUM COMPETITION
Title:
Designing for the Future of Architecture: Helsinki Museum Proposal
Project Overview:
In early 2025, I took part in the international competition for the new Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki. The proposal was developed in collaboration with architect Manuel Collado, with the aim of creating a space that could reflect the richness of architectural culture while offering flexible environments for public interaction and future growth.
My Role:
I was in charge of computational design, spatial logic, and structural coordination. Beyond shaping the formal language, I worked on facade strategies, circulation analysis, and constructive definition—always keeping in mind how the building could actually be built. Every part of the design was discussed closely with Manuel and the rest of the team, in a truly collaborative process.
Outcome:
We didn’t win the competition, but the experience was incredibly enriching. It allowed us to work at an urban and institutional scale, with a strong focus on climate, material expression, and public use. The process pushed us to question what a museum of architecture should be in the 21st century—and how to translate that into a real project.
Tools & Collaboration:
The project was developed using Rhino, Grasshopper and several performance analysis tools. It was a fast-paced, iterative workflow where ideas evolved quickly but always with one eye on feasibility. Working with Manuel was key to grounding the project conceptually, while my contribution focused on technical consistency and fabrication-aware design.
Final Thoughts:
This competition taught me a lot—especially about de
signing under pressure and making strategic decisions with limited time. It reminded me that every project, even if it’s not built, adds to your architectural understanding and sharpens your tools for the next challenge.
